Heal the memories your body carries

Sensorimotor Psychotherapy

Traumatic experiences leave traces on every level - in thinking, feeling, and the body. Traditional approaches often focus on cognition and emotion. Yet the close connection between mind and body opens new possibilities for transforming unresolved trauma patterns.

Sensorimotor Psychotherapy starts with the body and connects bodily signals with your emotional and mental experience. It doesn’t replace talk therapy - it complements and deepens it, allowing healing to unfold more fully.

When Words Aren’t Enough, but Your Body Speaks

Who is Sensorimotor Psychotherapy for?

Some women who choose SP have a diagnosis such as PTSD - many do not. Some have tried cognitive therapy and found it too overwhelming or not very effective. Because SP also accesses traumatic memory through bodily reactions, many experience this approach as gentler - and at the same time more comprehensive.

Common concerns include:

  • challenges with sexual arousal
  • psychosomatic pain
  • dissociated physical or emotional responses
  • unexplained anxiety symptoms
  • panic attacks

Your body knows the way.

Your body knows the way.

From Sensing to Understanding - and Back to Self-Regulation

How does Sensorimotor Psychotherapy work?

We begin by listening closely to your body. The body is our first language: it shows us what feels safe or threatening, what soothes us and what stresses us. Reflexes such as blinking or bracing arise from this level - and all more complex responses build upon it.

Because trauma affects the body, emotions, and cognition, these signals can easily become tangled. SP helps you distinguish between bodily sensations, emotions, and thoughts. As your awareness of your body grows, you are guided through specific exercises that begin with the body and gradually weave together with emotion and understanding. The goal is deep, integrated healing - something you can feel in everyday life, not only understand in your mind.

If you have questions or would like to explore whether this approach is right for you, I’d be happy to take the time to talk with you.
